Rose Akras BR/NL – Endurance II
According to philosopher Henri Bergson, duration can only be perceived by the flow of the immediate data of consciousness. In using numerical time as its measure, we would be mixing up time with space. In Endurance II Akras gradually detaches repetitive action and words from numbers and meaning, looking for a path to experience pure duration. According to Bergson, absolute repetition of actions is impossible as “every sensation is altered by repetition”. In rituals repetition works as a frame for provoking altered states, coming closer to the experience of duration. Photo: Thomas Lenden.
